My face started to break out recently, and I wondered why. That is not normal for my skin. Turns out I was reeking havoc on my face, doing everything you are NOT supposed to do. Here are 13 tips on what not to do plus how you can change your habits.

1. Using old beauty, hair, and makeup products.
SOLUTION: Check the expiration dates of your makeup (eyes, foundation/concealer, blush/lips), hair, and beauty products.
2. Not cleaning my makeup brushes.
SOLUTION: Clean your makeup brushes.

3. Not staying hydrated or eating enough fruit.
SOLUTION: Drink 8-10 oz. of water per day. Eat at least 2 cups of fruit a day.
4. ONLY using makeup remover wipes.
WHY NOT? Read here. 
SOLUTION: Make your own DIY makeup remover.
5. Applying CC cream (or any liquid foundation or makeup) with dirty hands.
WHY NOT? If your hands are covered in bacteria, you touch your face, germs can easily spread, and cause a breakout.
SOLUTION: Wash your hands before you apply your makeup, face moisturizer or wash your face.
6. Then using products with bacteria in them.
HOW THIS HAPPENS? Using dirty makeup brushes can cause bacteria to grow in your makeup, especially powder, blush, or eye shadow.
SOLUTION: Clean your makeup brushes.

7. Over washing my face.
WHY? You are stripping your face of it’s nutrients.
SOLUTION: Wash your face in the evening or twice a day if you have oily skin.
8. Not rinsing my face in the morning.
WHY? Read here.
SOLUTION: Rinse your face in lukewarm water in the morning.
9. Using products that irritated my skin – products with Vitamin C. 
SOLUTION: Test out new products before you use them on your face full time. Remember if you get a rash, use Benadryl.
10. Eating or drinking too many sugary drinks. Or eating junk food daily.
SOLUTION: Eat or drink them a few times a week or cut it out all together if you want. Just not every day.
11. Not getting enough sleep. 
WHY? Your body needs to replenish and regrow your skin cells.
SOLUTION: Get 7-10 hours. If you can’t try to sneak a 30 minute nap in your day.

12. Using dirty towels (that I had used to dry off my body) on my face.
SOLUTION: Use a separate soft wash cloth or towel to wash and dry your face. Don’t use the towel on your body and face.
13. Rubbing my face with a towel to dry instead of patting it dry.
WHY? May not cause a breakout, but might irritate your skin or cause it to loose it’s elasticity.
SOLUTION: Pat your skin dry.
