Choosing your makeup can be a big and fun decision, but you shouldn’t have to reap the negatives of wearing old makeup. That can bring itchy, irritated, and broken out skin. So how long does makeup last?
Water Based Foundation: 6-12 months. Because liquid foundation is water based, it will not last as long as powder foundation. Check the color, because it can turn a more yellowy color once it has gone bad.
Powder Foundation: up to 2 years. Make sure that your powder doesn’t contain any water ingredients like aloe, chamomile, or oat extract. Be sure to keep your brushes clean because bacteria can easily grow in your powder if your brushes are dirty and if kept in a damp space.
Powder or Stick Concealer: about 2 years.
Liquid Concealer: about 1 year. The biggest sign concealers have gone bad are if your face breaks out.
TIPS: Remember to check for other signs that your makeup has gone bad such as a change in smell or color. Store your makeup out of damp places like the bathroom, and keep your hands and brushes clean when applying your makeup.
